Whitehill, age 80, of Shenandoah, Iowa, passed away early Saturday morning, August 16, 2003, at the Elm Heights/Park Crest Care Center in Shenandoah. Eleanor Cleone Whitehill, the daughter of Benjamin and Laura (Walker) Hall, was born June 2, 1923, in Shenandoah, Iowa, and passed away August 16, 2003, at Elm Heights/Park Crest Care Center in Shenandoah. Growing up in the Farragut, Iowa area, Eleanor attended country school and graduated from Farragut Community High School in 1940. In 1942, she graduated from Peru State Teachers College and for two years taught in country schools and one year in the Sidney, Iowa school system. On March 24, 1946, she was united in marriage toGeorge R. (Bob) Whitehill at the Congregational Church in Farragut and to this marriage, Barry Randy, Bob and Beverly were born. They farmed south of Shenandoah for many years. Eleanor was a long time member of the Summit United Methodist Church, where she was the church organist. She was a member of DAR, serving as regent and treasurer, and was active with the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She and her husband enjoyed square dancing and for many years were involved with 4-H. One of Eleanor's favorite pastimes was attending the many programs and events of her grandchildren. Preceding Eleanor in death were her parents; husband Bob; son, Randy; daughter, Beverly Kilbourn; son-in-law, Howard Kilbourn, and two brothers, Gerald and Harold Hall.

Survivors include her sons and their wives, Barry and Cindy Whitehill of Waterloo, Iowa, and Bob and Janet Whitehill of Farragut, Iowa; one sister and her husband, Betty and Don Pisar of Temple, Texas; plus seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

A celebration of Eleanor's life was held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday August 19, 2003, at the United Methodist Church in Farragut, Iowa. Reverend Moody Colorado gave the words of comfort and Faye Royer and Fran Tyner served at the register book. Caring for flowers were Joan Brooks, Beth and Orville Keep and Naomi Worl. Pianist was John Colorado and hymns sung by the congregation were "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" and "Swing Low Sweet Chariot". Serving as ushers were Bill Tyner and Duane Whitehill while casket bearers were Louis Burkhiser, Ivan Glenn, Jerry Gruber, Charles Holman, Jim Kilbourn and Derek Whitehill. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah. The Selby Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or to Summit United Methodist Church.
